Statement Of The Issue

The City Council must adopt a resolution confirming and accepting the final results of the votes cast in June 2, 2026, Primary Municipal Election.

Recommended Action

ADOPT a resolution Declaring the Canvass of Returns and Results of the Primary Municipal Election held on June 2, 2026 – City Clerk’s Office (Pamela Christian 510- 620-6513).

Background

On December 16, 2025, the City of Richmond adopted Resolution No. 173-25 calling and giving notice of a primary municipal election to be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, for the election of certain officers, as required by the Charter of the City of Richmond (Attachment 1). The resolution also requested that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors consolidate the primary municipal election with the statewide primary election to be held on the same date. In addition, the resolution adopted regulations governing candidates’ statements submitted to voters, including the costs of candidates’

statements and other fees, the word limit for candidates’ statements, and the action to be taken in the event of a tie vote.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Elections Code, the Contra Costa County Elections Department canvassed the returns of the votes cast in the City of Richmond at the Primary Election held on June 2, 2026, for candidates for mayor and councilmembers for Districts 2, 3, and 4 submitted to the electorate.

On June 29, 2026, County Clerk Kristin Connelly certified the results of the election (Attachment 2). The City Council must now adopt a resolution confirming and accepting the final results of the votes cast June 2, 2026 (Attachment 3).
