Joint

Presiding: Mayor Gayle McLaughlin · Called to order: 6:48 p.m. · 4 items · 9 public comments · View official: Minutes

Agenda preview

The council will receive a $14.2 million budget update from the West Contra Costa Unified School District about state cuts affecting local schools. These cuts could impact class sizes and programs for the district's 28,000 students in Richmond and neighboring cities.

A presentation on the Nystrom School site revitalization will explore adding a health care facility to the campus. The West Contra Costa school district president proposed this idea, and Mayor McLaughlin asked staff to work with school officials on recommendations.

The council will also hear updates on bond-funded construction projects throughout the district. Councilmembers previously asked staff to explore funding for a swimming pool and community center as part of these facilities.

Five city-school partnership programs will be presented, including police officers in schools and violence prevention efforts. This continues the council's focus on Police & Community Safety, a topic that has appeared on 27 agendas in the past year.
